Warnings: Nicotinic acid (vitamin B3) can cause a so-called (sometimes violent, but harmless) 'flush' (sudden blood flow to the head and extremities with a warm, burning and/or tingling sensation). This reaction is transient. Caution should be exercised in the use of high doses of (ordinary) niacin in patients with impaired liver function, peptic ulcer disease and diabetes. For this reason, it is recommended to use niacin only under good medical supervision. There are a number of drugs that have an antagonistic effect on vitamin B3, including Levodopa (Parkinson's drug) and the tuberculosis drug isoniazid. When using such drugs, it may be necessary to increase the dose of niacin. Consult an expert for this.
